Feral pigeons carry diseases such as Orthinosis which is in birds, Chlamydophila psittaci infection, referred to as avian chlamydiosis (AC). Infected birds shed the bacteria through faeces and nasal discharges, which can remain infectious for several months. Many strains remain quiescent in birds until activated under stress. Birds are excellent, highly mobile vectors for the distribution of chlamydial infection because they feed on, and have access to, the detritus of infected animals of all sorts.

Health and Risks Associated With Pigeons (must read)
The very serious risks to health due to the disease and infections known to originate from the fouling dust and general pigeon debris including ornithosis and bird lung. Bird Droppings are acidic and cause damage to stone work, pointed and painted surfaces. They also act as a fretiliser and promote growth of fungi, which further damages buildings particularly when growth reaches supporting structures such as roofs.
